Classical and contemporary musical vocalist and song writer Nosa Donald Osayamwen popularly known by the stage name Djinee was born in Shagamu, Ogun State but a native of Oredo, Benin City in Edo State.
Djinee is a Nigerian urban singer with a captivating tenor vocal range and a unique soft rock edge. He is also a producer, a guitarist and a fabulous song writer. He attended Boys Model Secondary School, Evboneka in Edo State where he had his junior secondary school education.
Djinee took an interest in classical music when he was in Boys Model Secondary School, Evboneka near Benin City. He joined the school choir drawn by his passion and instantly became a personal favorite to the choir mistress who was a lady called Mrs. Kakulu. He is a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) where he obtained B.Sc. in computer science. While in the University he formed a music four-man music group called “Gentlemen Quartet”. It was a popular Boy band back then in Ogbomosho where the University was situated. This experience exposed Djinee to a lot musically and further help build him as a performing artiste.
After graduation, he worked as a video jockey for Soundcity, Djinee’s powerful yet emotional laden voice caught the ears of his first record label boss which then landed him a deal with Westside Music Inc. He was given a chance to work with one out of the top three (3) best producers in Nigeria at that time for his first single. Djinee chose to work with legendary producer Cobhams Asuquo. There was something unique about Cobhams which Djinee felt will help him bring out the sound he wanted to achieve at that time
He captured the hearts of many with this melodic tune. If there was a song in 2004 that was a lover’s rock anthem, it was surely “Ego”. He followed up with hits such as Lade, I No Dey Shame and more. This new set of singles proved Djinee’s vocal dexterity once again
His hard work and talent was then rewarded when he won the Best New Artiste award at the Nigerian Music Awards in London and nabbed two Nominations at the Hip Hop World Awards 2006.
He then quit Sound City in 2007 to concentrate on his music career but TV found him again when he hosted two reality music competitions.
He however returned in 2010 with yet another bang. His affiliation with emerging rap acts, M.I Abaga, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince signed to Chocolate City – who managed him at the time – appeared to have provided a sort of diversity to his music as he released Overkilling and the remix which featured the three aforementioned rappers.
